When Tre Cwm was built, there was neither time nor resources to create the kind of outdoor space that people need. We wanted to make better use of the space that was there, turning it into something the community could make use of and be proud to call home.
We advised Cartrefi Conwy on what was practical and achievable based on their original plans. Structures were designed to give children something to safely climb and play on. We were able to repurpose rocks from elsewhere on the estate and build a 14m caterpillar. We added a path from the estate to a nearby hillside walk, giving the community easy access to nature. We also remodelled the area outside the local shops.
To encourage community engagement, we organised open days and invited the local children to decorate the spaces themselves. The redesign has contributed to reduced instances of antisocial behaviour and helped the residents to feel a sense of pride in their surroundings. The project was a double-honour Green Flag award winner.
