We are delighted to inform you that Maes Glanarfon, a 3.4m project which is set to provide affordable housing in Llanfairfechan, is complete and the first tenants are moving in, a whole three months ahead of the projected schedule.

Maes Glanarfon is one of many developments which are part of Cartrefi Conwy’s £20m plans to build 300 new homes across North Wales, but also the first of its kind for Cartrefi Conwy based upon size and scale. The development includes 28 houses and apartments which are situated around a landscaped cul de sac in Penmaenmawr Road.

Brenig Construction sourced the land and have since taken the site from conception through the planning stage, and then to the construction phase and managed to complete the work three months ahead of the projected schedule which would have ended in April 2017.

These properties are something special indeed and are aimed at working people in the North Wales area, with a household income of between £15,000 and £30,000. These affordable homes are sorely in need within the area, as households of this bracket struggle to get a foot onto the property ladder as current house prices stand in the Conwy area beyond their reach – but earners within this bracket do not qualify for traditional social housing.

We’re very proud to point out that this development prioritised supply from North Wales based construction suppliers and can confirm that around 90 per cent of the suppliers involved were businesses based within the North Wales area.

Furthermore, we’re delighted to mention that as part of this project, we involved the local community in the development at Maes Glanarfon. This involved a number of things, including work on the existing Llanfairfechan Library, as well as opening the site to visits from local schools, as well as varying organisations such as Coleg Llandrillo in the aim of providing valuable learning experiences.

Our Directors Howard Vaughan and Mark Parry had this to say about the level of involvement Brenig Construction facilitated from the community in this project:

“We did some work on Llanfairfechan Library and also had site visits from schools and youth organisations. We arranged a visit from the manufacturers of the external rendering used on the apartments to Coleg Llandrillo in Rhos on Sea so they could explain the technique to construction students. We also arranged for the students and their tutors to be briefed on the type of timber framing used in the apartment block and a number visited the site to see how it was being fitted.”

We believe that sustainable building, solid health and safety, as well as local involvement and the creation of local jobs are vital to responsible construction, and we are delighted to have played a part in the construction of this fantastic start to Cartrefi Conwy’s 20m endeavour to provide homes to the North Wales area. It seems our enthusiasm is shared by Jane Richardson, the Director of Economy and Place for Conwy County Borough Council. She had this to say after a visit:

“After touring the development I am struck by the sensitivity of its design and the way it perfectly complements the landscape of the area. It’s great to see one and two bedroom apartments being included which gives people more choice and the opportunity to downsize from larger homes in this area. The intermediate rent homes are very important as they allow people the opportunity to save for when they decide to get onto the property ladder. I’m also pleased to hear that people from the immediate area will be moving in here.” 

The first tenants are already starting to move into Maes Glanarfon, and we’re thrilled about the part our company contributed to this fantastic development.
